Many believe that words have power, often enough to move people to certain ideas or convictions, or even affect the perspective of a group of people. In alchemy, however, symbols have power, much like the symbols used by the Elric brothers in the Fullmetal Alchemist series.
This hoodie features the Flamel on the front, a powerful alchemical symbol found on the back of Edward Elric's favorite red coat. This symbol is also largely found in many quasi-mystical rituals used by different cultures, which is probably why it has always been associated with unexplained power.
The Flamel symbolizes the "fixing of the volatile" in alchemy, and in the Fullmetal Alchemist series, it has powerful uses, even being able to weaken the almost physically unstoppable homunculi. The Elric brothers largely display this symbol, partly as homage to their alchemy teacher Izumi Curtis, who has also stated that the symbol is that of her own teacher Dante.
