People see a massive, armored person and they immediately think that it is a potential threat, perhaps even a monster if enraged, but very few would understand that beneath the gunmetal-colored steel suit that makes up the body of Alphonse Elric, the person inside is a gentle soul, the exact opposite of his he looks on the outside.
Living in an almost invulnerable body is not always as excellent as most people would think. Al Elric knows this firsthand, as he was forced to live thus far as a disembodied soul alchemically bonded to a suit of steel armor. While he may not be killed or hurt by anything that would otherwise be detrimental to humans, he is also bereft of the ability to feel anything, not having any skin, or organic body capable of feeling, for that matter.
The armored shell has often led people to think that it is actually Alphonse Elric who is the Fullmetal Alchemist, and not his diminutive brother Edward. Despite his hulking and brutish appearance, compared to his brother Edward, Al is quite the pacifist. Never one to start a fight, he is always one for talking things out until they are resolved, although he is not someone you would definitely want to cross in anyway, because despite the bulk of his armor, Alphonse is a highly skilled combatant, both physically and in the use of combat alchemy.
